The goal of this paper is to assess the infrastructure conditions in Cambodia in the context of its urbanization. The study will concentrate on informal settlements, whose explosive growth is a direct manifestation of rapid urbanization. It will focus on water infrastructure as one of the prime sectors responsible for the social, economic, and environmental security of the region. The study will also discuss ways in which the habitability of these informal settlements can be improved. Implementations of intermediate technologies that have been developed and supported with local means will be presented as case studies.
